For Sharyn and Sebastiaan, food and family have always been inextricably linked. Time spent together, the associations of smell and tastes – the routine and the festive. It is a collaboration that prompted the creation of The Cheese Pleaser delicatessen, to combine both Sharyn and Sebastiaan's passions for great food, cheese and seasonal produce and create a destination rich in community and family.
At The Cheese Pleaser we believe cheese is special because of its flavour and its story – and every cheese has a story. We believe the pleasure of eating is improved by an understanding of the produce we eat, its history and origins. We hope to share this knowledge and love of cheese with you.
Sebastiaan de Kort
Seb always knew he’d pursue a career as a chef. Work experience with a bread maker and chef in his early teens was the precursor to 7 years at Brisbane staple, Moda, under the guidance and direction of the celebrated Catalan chef, Javier Codina. Seb is in constant pursuit of the principles of good food: cooking with seasonal produce and collaborating with expert producers who share a similar love, care and passion for the transformative ability of food. Seb is excited to launch The Cheese Pleaser delicatessen, to run an on-site kitchen focused on seasonality, and to create a daily menu conscious of the inclusion of local and sustainable produce.
Sharyn de Kort
Growing up in the country, Sharyn’s interest in food and produce began early. Sharyn’s involvement in the creation and operation of cheese festivals around Australia inspired her continued support and promotion of artisan cheese making and speciality cheese producers. Passionate about the artistry and history of cheese and cheese making, Sharyn established The Cheese Pleaser in 2014, and her fascination with its diversity and seasonality is a passion she loves to share.
